LONDON

Lud's Gate

You start the level in a room with candles burning in alcoves. There is one alcove, which is illuminated by strip lighting and covered in hieroglyphics. There is a hole in the ceiling, and half a London cab on bricks.

There is an immortal waiting patiently in a corridor and as you move towards him he leads you along. The immortals in this stage are like the Monks in TR2. If you don’t shoot at them they will not harm you. You pass two more immortals one on each side of the corridor before you enter a room with two pools in it.

Take the left tunnel. Follow around until you come to a deep slope. Slide down but quickly turn to your right and climb into the hole to avoid the spiked roof coming down. You will slide to a halt by a pink switch on your right.

Pressing the switch opens a door above a ledge opposite the closed iron doors. Climb out through the opening opposite the switch, onto the ledge. Look below and you can see barbed wire.

If you jump diagonally to the left corner and hold the walk (shift) key before you land you will not die. You can now walk through the barbed wire towards the open tunnel in the wall you jumped from. Climb up on the right side and you will find a large medi pack plus a box of flares Secret 1

There is a ledge to jump up to followed by another ledge to the right. Next you have to jump at an angle to your right to reach the next ledge. This takes you down a slope and back to the area with the switch.

Now climb up to the ledge with the door you opened with the switch. Climb up on the mesh until you are above the ledge you can see behind you. Back flip from the mesh onto the wooden ledge (this is where the middle tunnel comes out). Go back into the tunnel and on your right you will find a large medi pack.

Jump back onto the mesh and climb over to the right side. The mesh is marked out in square sections. Every other section has a bar across it. Climb to the third section with a bar, which is red. Back flip with a twist (action + jump + roll).

This will bring you onto another climbable wall. Climb up and you can see a rocket launcher but you won’t be able to get it directly. You need to release, so that you are hanging, and then use the up arrow to get into the space Secret 2

Climb out backwards to hang and then climb down until you reach the wooden slope. You will need to let go of the action key and press the jump + roll keys then immediately repress the action key on it’s own. (If Lara slides down the slope she will not grab the mesh.)

Climb to the fourth section with a bar. Aim to hold with Lara’s hands at the midpoint of this section. If you are in the right position you can do a straight back flip to a ledge with a save gem and a box of shells.

Step forward, slide, jump and grab the mesh again. Climb over to the right now. Climb up until you reach a passageway, and then pull yourself up. Go to the end of the passage and you will find some shells on your right.

Come back about halfway and you will find an area you can stand in. Climb the ledge on your left and find the small medi pack. Draw your pistol and as you land you will target the guard. Start firing and press the roll button.

Turn at the edge to have your left arm leading. Now sidestep to the right twice. Draw your pistols and side flip left, firing as you land. Run to the side of the guard, as you fire, and he will soon be dead. Now let the guard in by using the switch to the left of the door. Draw your pistols, back flip and kill the guard.

When they are both dead, pull the block in the corner into the middle then, push it into the opposite corner. This will open an entranceway to an area down the corridor on the right. The walls are covered in hieroglyphics.

Run around to the right of the stone pillar and you will find a small medi pack on a ledge at the back. Come back around to the front and climb the stone steps in the centre. You will see an entrance between two wooden ladders. Climb up and follow the passage into a room with a stone block.

Push the block across the doorway (which moves the column blocking the entrance to the main room). Now climb up into the hole above the block. Crawl across the space. Then hang and drop down on the other side. You are now back on the other side of the doorway you have just blocked. From the ledge you can see the pillar that has moved.

Step onto the first step and look left and up. You will see a wooden ladder that you can monkey swing from. You need to jump at an angle but if you grab you should hold. Monkey swing forward and left to find an area with a energy/save crystal. You will need to drop and grab the edge of the ledge.

You will need to climb up the steps again in order to get to the area opposite. So monkey swing forward and right. There is a switch there that opens a door on a high ledge. Although there is a ledge here you can't get to it from here so ignore it.

Crawl to the opening and turn. Hang and drop to the floor. Go to the nearest side of the pillar blocking the doorway. The earth is piled higher on the left and if you stand here you can grab the edge and pull yourself up. You can now turn and jump up to the ledge above.

There is a crawl space on the right of this ledge. Climb in and turn around. Hang and drop down to the other side, then pull yourself up onto the next ledge. Slide down the slope and drop into the hallway at the end. Run into the room where you killed the first guard and move the block two spaces into the opposite corner. This will move the pillar away from the doorway, again, in the Egyptian room.

Reclimb the steps but this time climb onto the pillar, which has moved back from the doorway. Grab the ledge above and pull yourself up. On a ledge to your left you can see a switch. I found it easiest to do a swallow dive (action + jump + forward), to get the best trajectory. Pull the switch and jump back.

The switch closes a door to bridge the gap in the two wooden ladders you climbed through at the start of this room. Jump across to the ladder and climb up. At the top, climb to the left and drop to the ledge. Turn and walk to the corner of the ledge and jump across to the stone block on the left. Jump left into the next hole in the wall.

Jump onto the next ledge to your left. Climb down to an area with a large medi kit and some flares. Climb back up and jump across to the next ledge and follow around to the right. Slide down the ledge and jump across to the ledge. You have already opened the door with the switch after the monkey swing.

Go through and to the right. Here is a good time to save. Slide down the slope and jump forward and grab the ledge as soon as you hit the tiles, which will break up. Pull yourself up and take the embalming fluid. Looking back you can see another breakable tile on the left. I can't think of a use for this can anybody else?

Crawl through the ventilator duct and collect some uzi clips. Turn and lower yourself out of the other side. There is another ventilator duct at the end of this corridor. As you drop down draw your pistols ready for the guard around the corner.

Go to the end of the corridor you dropped into and crawl into the next ventilator shaft. As you get clear there is a guard right on top of you so you need to draw your pistols immediately. Kill the guard and press the switch. Collect the rocket in between the doors.

Come back into the room and find the hole behind the blocks. Drop down onto the metal ledge. Do a standing jump forward and grab the grating in the ceiling. Monkey swing across to the energy/save crystal. Jump back onto the grating and monkey swing back on the left-hand side. Drop down when you reach the third metal strip across the grating and you should land on the Sphinx's head.

Face the back of the Sphinx's head and walk up to the left corner. Line up her head with the downward tip of the ceiling. Hop back one step (not walk). Do a standing jump forward and you will land on a ledge with a small medi pack on it.

Do a standing jump onto the pillar. Next do a running jump over to the white ledge on the left. Pull yourself up and jump across to the ledge as you slide down. Run to the end to find two rockets and the energy/save gem Secret 3.

Run back to the middle of the ledge and jump across to the Sphinx behind his head. This should let you slide safely to the ground. You may need to use the action key to grab. Run around the Sphinx to the other side. The second doorway is open with steps leading up and a guard bearing down.

Kill the guard. pick up the small medi pack that he drops and carry on to the top of the stairs. Pull up onto the ledge above the doorway. There is a movable block, which you can pull out one space. Then step Back towards the stairs and hang. Shimmy to the left and climb over the block.

Clmb onto the grating and then over to your right. Drop down into the next tunnel. Jump up to the next ledge. Go to the end and drop down onto another ledge. You can now drop down on the other side of the box you just moved. Push it out one more space (the one under the purple light).

Next pull the second one in two spaces. Now turn to your left to see the entrance to secret 4. Walk to the edge and do a standing jump over to the secret area ledge, and pull yourself up. Here you will find a rocket and a large medi pack.

Crawl back out then turn and jump back up to the ledge. Pull yourself up on the right so that you can climb the block back up to the grating. Shimmy right and drop into the tunnel as before. Climb up to the next ledge, go to the end and drop down the hole to your right. Drop down again and you are on the other side of the two blocks.

You can now drop into the area with the two pools from the beginning of the level. Take the corridor right and head back to the room you started in. (Remember not to shoot at the immortals!) Opposite the cut up London Cab is an alcove with hieroglyphics. Place the embalming fluid in here.

A door to the left opens. As you walk in, a trapdoor opens beneath your feet. You fall a long way into water and an area with an Underwater Propulsion Vehicle (UPV). Get on with the action key and get off with roll + direction, left or right. The UPV can fire harpoons with the action key, if you have them.

If you haven't got any there are a number about the cave. Once you come out of the UPV chamber you can't return because of the current. Presuming that you have some harpoons. Kill the first crocodile as you come into the cave. Now head over to the right to a hole with a box above it.

Leave the UPV outside and swim in to find an air hole in the roof of this area. The idea is to explore the area, returning here to replenish your air supply. There are three other smaller caves like the one with the air hole. There is also a slab with some harpoons in the main cave. Leave this until last as it will trigger the next crocodile.

In the cave straight across you will find two lots of harpoons and a energy/save crystal. In the cave to the right of that you will find two more lots of harpoons plus a large medi pack. As you are swimming back to the air hole you will see a third cave to the left of the air-hole cave's entrance. In here you will find some uzi clips.

When you have refreshed your air supply swim down to the end of the main cave. On the right is a small medi pack. From there if you look to your left you can see some more harpoons at the very back of the cave. Don't explore the exit without the UPV as the current will stop you coming back for it. This leaves the harpoons on the slab on the right of the main cave.

Drive the UPV next to the harpoons ready to jump back on. When you pick these up the second crocodile will appear. You can choose to leave them there, as you will use up more harpoons killing the crocodile than to leave them.

If you choose to pick them up for completeness, quickly get back on the UPV. You can then kill it without any further damage to yourself. (Don't forget to watch your air!)

Guide the UPV through the exit up the tunnel into a pool. Dismount from the UPV and climb onto the low wall. Collect the harpoons and drop into the other side. Swim along the under water tunnel until you reach the end. You can see a glass wall, on your right, with an energy/save gem and another UPV behind it.

On the wall opposite the glass you will find a lever switch. After you have pulled it a trapdoor will drop down which is in the tunnel you have just swum through. Swim up through the doorway and climb up onto a ledge. Now turn right and you can jump up to another ledge.

Here you are behind another glass wall. Through it you can see a frogman and a guard. Push the switch to your right and jump back into the water. The switch opens a door in the side of the underwater tunnel. Swim in and through this next tunnel (stay underwater!).

Swim through the channel in front of you. When you can see the wooden floor on the bottom to your right it is safe to surface for air. You can move about undetected on the water surface, provided you do not go back into direct view of the guard.

There are two underwater compartments you can swim into, on the wall behind the wooden floor. The one in the right hand corner contains a small medi pack, and a lever. The lever opens a door to enable you to reach secret area 6. The one on the left contains Desert Eagle clips Secret 5.

Swim back towards the tunnel you came in through. Make sure you dip underwater, before the guard sees you. Instead of going back through the tunnel, which is now blocked, head right down another channel.

Follow along to the end and you will be able to climb out on the right. Climb out and up the next ledge and then turn to look at the room. You can see the frogman but he can't see you yet. Don't bother trying to shoot the frogman as you won't be able to target him. Now is a good time to save.

Crawl forward until you can turn and drop down into the water. You will find an energy/save gem here. Swim forward and climb out on the next ledge. This is the doorway you opened with the lever on the other side of the pool. Crawl forward again, and to the left. When you are behind the big white rocks you can stand without being seen. Go past the rock and in the right hand corner you will find an alcove with a ledge to climb up.

Climb up the ledge and follow around to the left. A guard hiding in the shadows to your left will attack you. Run past him and jump across to the metal ledge in front of you. The frogman will now be in the water shooting harpoons at you.

You can now target and kill him. Underwater on your left is a tunnel. If you jump in and go right you will find Secret 6. This is the area behind the glass wall that you saw earlier. There is a UPV, 4 lots of harpoons and a large medi pack. (If you don't seem to be able to pick up the harpoons under the UPV, move it away first) Bring the UPV out of the corridor

There is a frogman lurking in the next tunnel and if you take your time he may come out of the tunnel and attack you. If he does you need to climb out and shoot him with your guns, as you don't have a harpoon gun at this stage. Alternatively you can use the UPV to fire at him but it is difficult to manouvre in such a small space.

Either way, the next thing is to kill the guard running about outside. He is a bit docile and will only shoot at you occasionally. If you stay on the metal platform you can pick him off in relative safety.

After you have killed him run out toward the white rocks in front. The last boxes on the right hide the harpoon gun, two lots of harpoons and a small medi pack. Go back to the guard and pick up the boiler key he will have dropped.

Go back towards the area where you shot the frogman. On the right of the entrance is a metal wall that you can jump and pull yourself up. On here you will find some harpoons. Walk forward and drop to a ledge on the left to find some more harpoons.

You now want to jump across to the ledge that you first used to climb out of the water. Don't worry if you fall in because you can just climb out! Pull yourself up onto the second ledge and then climb up on the box to your right.

Behind you is a ledge you can jump to. Turn around and, from the edge of the box, do a standing jump and grab. Pull yourself up and crawl to the right. There is a hidden area, you can drop down to, where you will find a small medi pack.

Pull yourself up on the other side and crawl out to the right. There is another ledge jutting out, which you can climb up on. From here there is a ledge which you can run and jump to. This is above the flashing red light.

Run along to the end and you will find some more harpoons. Run back where you jumped across, hang and drop off the end. Jump into the corner so you can pull up into the corridor where you ran past the first guard.

Kill this guard if you didn't shoot him as you ran past. As you are about to go left into the straight part of this corridor there is a hole in the wall on your right. You can climb in here to find a space with another energy/save gem and a flare.

Make your way along the corridor and jump into the water where you killed the frogman. Climb on the UPV and go down the tunnel in the corner. Kill the second frogman if you haven't already encountered him.

You may want to go back to the beginning of the tunnel to refresh your air, as there is a crocodile in the next area. Shoot the crocodile remembering to target the UPV using Lara's head. (Now is a useful place to save so that you can explore the alcoves without worrying about your oxygen.)

You now need to find the air hole in order to explore the deeper tunnels. It's situated in the upper left alcove of the right hand wall. I suggest you dismount from the UPV to explore, as it tends to get stuck against the walls.

If you got the UPV from the secret area, then the alcove with the air hole is next to an alcove, which is blocked off. If however, you got here without finding the UPV in the secret area, there is a UPV in the right hand of the two alcoves.

Leave the UPV in the air hole alcove and swim down to the left-hand alcove on the floor of the opposite wall. You will find an energy/save gem in here. The right of the two alcoves is blocked off. Swim back to the air hole.

From the air hole swim to the left alcove at the bottom of the left wall. There is a green light to this area. On the right you will find a lever switch. Pull this to open another door. Swim back to the air hole.

From the air hole swim to the left tunnel at the bottom of the left wall. There is a green light to this area. At the end of the tunnel on the right you will find a lever switch. Pull this to open another door. Swim back to the air hole.

This next bit needs to be done very accurately otherwise Lara will run out of breath and you will have to use up medi packs to extend her time without air. I prefer not to use the UPV as it is more difficult to control and you waste time getting on and off.

Swim from the air hole to the upper right hand alcove on the left wall. This has a green lighting effect. Follow on around to the left. At the end you will need to swim down, then forward. Then immediately to your left through the doorway the last lever opened. Here you will find another lever and a small medi pack.

It is important to get right next to the lever and right next to the medi pack so that when you press the action key Lara doesn't waste time adjusting. When you have pulled the lever use the roll key to get her to turn quickly.

Waste no time heading back to the air hole. If you have done it right you can make it in just one breath without using up any of your energy.

There is a lever in the next area, which will release two frogmen from another tunnel. Check that you can get your harpoon gun by pressing the spacebar (PC). Otherwise go to weapon selection (Esc on PC) and choose harpoon. Then press the spacebar to put it away. You are now ready.

This is made more awkward by the disorientating way Lara moves after the lever is pulled and the way she will stick to the door as she tries to swim round it. Swim to the tunnel directly opposite the air hole (top right hand on the opposite wall). Swim around to the left.

At the end is a doorway with a energy/save gem and past the door, on the left, is the lever switch. Make sure you line up on the switch correctly to keep readjustment to a minimum. Swim back under the door and look out for the first frogman.

If he appears in the distance you have a good chance of killing him easily. The second frogman usually waits in the alcove on the left just before the air hole. It's a difficult section to get right. It might be easier with the UPV but I don't think so!

Before taking the UPV to the next section collect the energy/save gem from the bottom left alcove in the opposite wall. Then swim back to the bottom right alcove on the air hole wall for a small medi pack.

Now swim back to the air hole and get on the UPV. Direct it into the first alcove on your right, and follow around to your right. There is a hole the divers came out of. Go in and then direct the UPV upward.

If the UPV seems to get stuck against the wall try twisting off with the direction left or right keys. Dismount from the UPV and climb onto the ledge. Before you can jump across to the ledges you need to put out the fires. There is a lever switch, in the water under the ledges, which turns off the flames. There are also some harpoons in the far, left corner.

Climb back out of the pool and jump across to the first fire free ledge. Next jump across to the second ledge. On your left there is a large medi pack plus some uzi clips. You can jump up to this area and Lara will not slide back.

Jump across to the last ledge and you are at the entrance to a tunnel. Follow around to the right and you come into a second tunnel with three pistons. Now is a good time to save! If you start to sprint just as the first piston is on the rise you should make it across in one. If you want to do it one at a time aim for the spaces in between the shadows on the floor.

Climb up onto the next ledge and run to the end. Do a running jump and grab the mesh on the ceiling. Monkey swing across to the opposite side and drop down onto a metal section with flares and shotgun shells.

Pull yourself back up to the ledge and monkey swing back to the hole above the waterfall. Drop and grab the ledge and pull yourself up into the hole. Crawl in, turn and drop off the other side. Use the boiler room key in the lock and the door will open to reveal another energy/save gem and a push switch.

The switch opens another door in the underwater chamber where you killed the crocodile and two frogmen. Climb back out and drop into the water. Get on the UPV. Getting on will leave you underwater using up some of your air. Make sure you go to the surface so that you have a full air supply before you try to reach the next stage.

Dive down and through the door. Come out of the tunnel and go to the top left hole in the opposite wall. (The air hole is blocked off at this stage.) As you go into the tunnel follow it left and through the doorway at the end, then straight up. Beware getting the UPV stuck against the walls - use the left and right arrow keys to keep you rotating off the walls.

You surface in another pool. There is a large medi pack on a ledge. After you have retrieved this dive across and climb onto the other ledge. Sidestep to the left and do a standing jump across to the first platform as the pendulum is swinging away. If you crouch immediately you are safe. You can crawl to the far edge of this platform and stand up.

You can do a standing jump across to the second ledge. You can pull yourself up safely then either crawl or run past the second pendulum and jump across to the next ledge. Watch out for the last gap between this ledge and the tunnel.

Before you jump across draw your pistols ready for the guard around the corner. Shoot the guard. The tunnel comes to a dead end. Come back towards the pendulums and you will find a place to jump up to a ledge, near the beginning of the tunnel.

Pull yourself up. Jump up to the next ledge. Slide down the slope on the other side. Jump and pull yourself up the next ledge. On your right is the entrance to a tunnel. Despite being an upward slope Lara can climb up here.

At the end of the tunnel you have to jump across to the opposite wall. There are two openings. You can grab the ledge of the top one but you can't crawl in. Drop to the lower one, pull up and crawl to the left.

You will come out opposite another tunnel entrance on the opposite wall. Run and jump across to catch the ledge. Pull yourself up and crawl in and to the left and up. You will need to turn and drop into a hole. Then climb out on the other side.

Slide down the slope. and crawl through the tunnel at the end to finish the level and have a confrontation with the BOSS.
